The intersection of heavy electronic music and cultural identity is where the most exciting innovations in the underground are happening right now, and Vancouver’s own BLZBO is leading the charge. Dropping tonight at midnight, her highly anticipated EP VIVO is a brilliant, high-octane collision of heavy bass weight and rich Latin rhythms. Merging the raw, chest-rattling intensity of dubstep with the infectious, undeniable groove of reggaeton, the project is a vibrant celebration of her South American heritage. BLZBO refers to this lethal fusion as “Bass con Sabor”—and it is designed to do the impossible: make you headbang and dance all at the exact same time.
Ahead of the midnight release, we sat down with the Vancouver producer to dig into the roots of the project, the global rise of the “reggaeton-step” movement, and why VIVO is the truest, most unfiltered representation of her artistic identity to date.

This is a big look, and a big moment. Your VIVO EP is here. Off the jump, what inspirations have you drawn from to shape this project?
VIVO comes directly from my Latin heritage and my love for bass music. Dubstep has always been home for me, but I also listen to reggaeton every single day. Artists like Young Miko, Bad Bunny, and De La Rose really inspired me from the Latin side, while Skrillex and Jon Casey have been huge influences on my sound in electronic music. This EP is where those worlds finally collide. It’s the project I’ve always wanted to make, and it feels like the truest representation of who I am as an artist.
Bringing your heritage into heavy electronic music feels like a massive statement. Can you talk about the Latin bass influence on VIVO and why it was so important for you to center this project around those specific sounds and rhythms?
Rhythm has always been everything to me. I love dubstep, but I also felt there was room to bring something fresh into the scene. I wanted to blend the energy of heavy bass music with the grooves and percussion I grew up with to create something that feels uniquely BLZBO.
Growing up in South America, I was surrounded by salsa, merengue, reggaeton, and nonstop family parties where everyone was dancing together. That feeling has always stayed with me. I wanted to capture that same energy and bring it into the bass world. VIVO is my culture meeting my favorite genre. It’s what I like to call Bass con Sabor.
The global Latin bass and “reggaeton-step” movement has been booming over the last couple of years. From your perspective, why do you think these two communities and sounds fuse together so perfectly?
I think they complement each other naturally. Dubstep brings the power and intensity, while Latin music brings rhythm, groove, and movement. When you put those together, you get something that hits hard but also makes people dance.
That’s always been my goal. I want people to headbang, but I also want them moving their hips. Those two worlds aren’t opposites, they actually make each other stronger.
If you had to pick one specific track on the EP that was sparked by a completely unexpected burst of inspiration, which one would it be and what’s the story behind it?
“El Descontrol” for sure. That track was heavily inspired by NSXTY and Jon Casey who have been a massive influence on me from the trap side of electronic music. When I first started BLZBO, I was producing mostly trap, so this song feels like a nod to where I began.
It’s definitely one of the heavier tracks on the EP, but it still carries that Latin flavor that’s become such an important part of my sound. It perfectly represents the chaos, energy, and attitude I wanted this project to have.

Every track on this project carries an intense presence. What are you hoping a crowd feels or takes away from these tracks when they drop in a room?
More than anything, I want people to dance. I want the girls shaking ass, the bass heads headbanging, and everyone in the room feeling like they’re part of one giant party.
Latin music has always brought people together, and that’s the energy I wanted to bring into bass music. I hope these songs make people forget about everything else for a few minutes and just let loose. If someone hears a BLZBO track and can’t help but move, then I’ve done my job.
As a producer, hearing your music translate from studio monitors to a massive club rig is everything. Where and when can we hear the new EP live and on a system next?
I’ve got some really exciting shows coming up that I can’t announce just yet, but I promise this is only the beginning of the VIVO era. I can’t wait for everyone to experience these records on a proper sound system because that’s exactly how they were meant to be heard. Stay tuned! there’s a lot more BLZBO coming soon.
