Michael Red – Harpoon

Low Indigo head and Lighta! member was invited to take part in King Deluxe Records 2999 project. A project in which artists of all walks are invited to portray the year 2999 in their respective forms. Michael Red’s envisionment certainly paints a picture, perhaps a dreary mechanical one. Jacob 2-2 – Herbivore

Jacob 2-2 – Herbivore (Official Trailer) from CerealSystem on Vimeo.

Out now via King Deluxe Records is Jacob 2-2’s ‘Herbivore’ . 2-2 orchestrates the majority of his music with the sounds of keys, various bloops, strums, static and a wealth of other non conventional sounds. Most easily comparable to Mr. Oizo, although very much not so. Jacob 2-2 tends to be more beat oriented opposed to Oizo’s more dance influence. Taste the track below and then proceed to check him out.

You can purchase ‘Herbivore’ now by way of the King Deluxe store.

King Deluxe – Creating a God

CREATING-A-GOD Great new multi media project/contest put forth by King Deluxe Records. Creating a God will require the skill of a writer and a musician. All entries are due in by February 15th.

To kick off the new year we thought we’d host another competition, this time for our 2999 project. In which we normally begin with the musician soundtracking the year 2999 and then pair them up with visual artists to bring these concepts to life.

This time though we thought we’d switch it around and start off with an illustration from Santiago Vecino titled “Creating a God.”

For this piece we’re looking for original interpretations of Santiago’s piece, music that has little anchor in our time but still has some elements of melody and rhythm, however alien.

The most fitting track will be chosen to join the ranks of Slugabed, Strangeloop, Raffertie, Krumble, I.D., Jason Forrest, Peter Popken and many others that have contributed already. You have until Friday, February 15th to complete and submit your work to our soundcloud group…

Get creative! Play around with form, with texture, customize every sound in your composition so that you end up with something truly unique. Also, for the writers out there, we’re going to crowdsource the narration as well. So if you believe you know what exactly is going on in this scene, please send us a paragraph or two. Intriguing but concise. We can hardly wait to hear and read what people come up with.

The winning track will be pressed alongside a Julien original as well as two stellar mystery remixers. However we’ll also be releasing an extended digital version of the album, so other standout submissions may also be considered.

We’re including stems here for both “Watercolour Sky” and “Glide, Sail, Float”. Feel free to choose one, or both, or even forgo the source material and do your own cover version. Just make sure you finish by November 30th. 2012. When completed, please upload your remix to your own soundcloud and then add to this group…

When Will They Wake Up

What we’re looking for is highly original works, that show these songs in a very different context, or treat the source material as samples to create entirely new compositions with. Please think outside the box!

Review: A Thousand Years – Farmers in Fields of Stars

Originally posted on Schitz Popinov

A Thousand Years has produced what may be the most broad genre encompassing record of the year; Farmers in Fields of Stars. Leaned out progressive R&B is most likely the most accurate way to verbally convey the overall sound of this record.

From beginning to end one experiences a feeling of uncertainty as to what is going to leak into your ear and from what corner of your memory one is going to reminisce with next. To say that this record is a nostalgia trigger is an understatement, however a more judicious expression is out of grasp at this time. I feel as though Zeké Africa’s father’s Jazz background, and probable influence, has had a significant bearing on A Thousand Years style as it is today. There is an uncanny progression from track to track that continues throughout the debut EP of the London based artist which must stem from Jazz.
