Leroy Bella aka Sines is one of the busiest producers around. With two labels going, mix’s, partie’s, interview’s and just networking at an amazing pace Sines is quickly becoming one of Texas’s best known. Amidst everything he’s got going he threw down an exclusive mix for you all here today to accompany the interview. Tracklisting and mix following the words. Enjoy. And thanks.
Who are you, where are you from, where are you now?
Im Leroy Bella, born in Brownsville Texas and raised in Houston Texas.
I currently reside in Pasadena TX (15 mins outside of Houston).
What were some landmarks of 2011 for you?
2011 was a pretty good yr for my label Freshmore. We had 5 releases and did a mini Texas Tour.
Over the years you’ve moved through a number genres, dubstep, juke, I was just listening to some moombahton on your soundcloud. Where are you at with moombahton?
Yea man I try to add alot of variety by making different genres. I dig some moombahton and seem to only be making the more chill stuff. My sound is forever changing.
There have been a couple of other people under the name Sines. Is it just you now?
Well there are 2 of us that dj together as Sines but im more on the production end when it comes to Sines.
How often does Sines come together for a live show?
Anytime we play out we usually play together.
With so much on the go, Formant Recordings, Fresh More and Sines.
How do yo manage all to work smoothly at once?
Its a long process for everything. I try to spend time on everything equally. Juggling being a father and a full time job it tends to be hard but I think ive done a pretty good job.
Right now im mainly focusing on Sines and Freshmore. Formant at the moment is in the air. Vinyl sales have been down so kinda hard to keep on with it.
Records are down and freebies are up. As someone who is going through the motions with two labels can you elaborate a bit on how social media has helped you move forward with promotion and or popularity of your business and music. (There’s a handful of freebies on the Fresh More soundcloud).
The internet and social media are wonderful. Online promo is where its at right now promoting everything. Blogs, soundcloud, twitter, facebook and the list goes on.
I have linked with so many people cos of the web.
Houston is known as a musically diverse place. Has your creation of two labels been a move to accommodate the diversity of the city?
In a sense it has. Houston is a big diverse city with so much music you can get engulfed by the amount of it. I just try to do my part and spread what i think is good music.
808/ southern rap beats are pretty well mainstream atm. Any thoughts on the recent popularity of this particular sound? And who would you say took the sound to the top of the charts? Granted the sound has been around for a solid minute.
That 808 sounds has always been around. I forever have been a fan especially living in Houston. Way too many artist to name on that. But in the past few yrs its been incorporated alot with electronic music.
Can you list up three artists both on and off of Fresh More that you’ve been listening to as of late?
