Natural High – Fly

The more I listen to Natural High, the more I feel compelled to tell the world about him. Really, I think the name he chose encompasses what he’s trying to do. I first heard of this French producer when I fell upon his remix of Telepopmusik’s “Smile” in 2012 and it struck a chord in me, made me feel sort of like I was listening to a memory. He speaks this truth on his Soundcloud:

“One of the freshest and most gratifying things about making music is that the music that we make is hopefully synonymies with people’s positive memories. Music is the best art form for capturing the emotion of a time period in someone’s life. To think that our music is that to people, and acts as the soundtrack, however long that might be, is rewarding and kind of exciting. A song worth a thousand words and I hope my music will speaks to your mind, body and soul.”

This guy isn’t even signed! Give his stuff a listen when you’re lying on your bed staring up at the ceiling. For those wanting more, good news: he released an EP in 2012 and an LP in 2014 and they’re both gold. Please show your support of this soulful producer by visiting his media pages.

Wave Racer / Ryan Hemsworth – DESTROYED 7″

Ryan Hemsworth and Wave Racer have been having some fun remixing each other lately, putting together a limited edition 7+ vinyl with tracks “Streamers” and “Ryan Must Be Destroyed”.

Vivid, lively & fun, the n64 references are abound and Yoshi is sampled generously. The song feels like something straight out of the game.

I can’t decide which one I like more.

I dunno about you but I want more. What a kickass duo. If you’re hitting up Squamish Valley Music Fest you can look forward to hearing some of Ryan’s amazing new stuff there, and don’t forget to show your support for the artists by liking & following the media below:

Baron C ✘ 40K & Kandy Space – Stuck On You

A lofty collaboration from some of Vancouver’s hip hop & electronic talent. I met a guy at Celebrities last week and managed to catch his DJ name, Kandy Space. Kandy Space mixes a lot of R&B and does the production for laid back hip hop tracks of Vancouver rappers which everyone can appreciate. Find him posting new tracks at the speed of light on his Soundcloud. Pick up some free downloads while you’re there.

London Grammar – Hey Now (Bonobo Remix)

Is there anything better than a great London Grammar remix? Bonobo instills that characteristic “peaceful curiosity” of his (I love the quiet chimes) while London Grammar adds strength with some seriously powerful female vocals.

Both artists are British-born and currently on tour – hopefully you caught London Grammar at the Commodore on March 31st and if not, while Bonobo isn’t appearing in Vancouver (wtf?) he’ll be in Seattle on the 19th (or you can catch him in Victoria at Sugar Nightclub on May 21st).

Vindata – All I Really Need (ft. Kenzie May)

Vindata is a pair of Los Angeles-based producers. Started in early 2010, they describe their music as a “passion project to explore an uncultivated, organic, electronic sound. Jared Poythress and Branden Ratcliff set out to fuse their homegrown influences (Funk, Hip Hop, and R&B) with their new found zeal for Indie-dance, Chillwave, and Experimental.” Kenzie May also kills it with some soft vocals and subtle drug references in this disenchanted track.

Panama – Destroyer (Cosmo’s Midnight Remix)

So this remix was released in January, a wicked rendition of Panama’s Destroyer. With their own unique style imbued into everything they touch, something new and upbeat is always created.  Cosmo’s Midnight consists of couple of twin brothers from Sydney that happen to be amazing producers.

For those who like to jam in bed, check out their EP Surge. You can thank me later ;)

Hero – Frank Ocean + Mick Jones + Paul Simonon + Diplo

Converse Three Artists delivers us this track featuring Diplo, his cited “teachers” The Clash and vocals from my hero Frankie Ocean. Each of these artists on their own could make me swoon but a collaboration from the three of them? Nothing I ever thought I’d have the pleasure of enjoying. Thank you, Converse.

Pretty Lights – Lost and Found

Now if you’re anything like me, Pretty Lights’s most recent album A Color Map of the Sun struck you as an instant classic. Thirteen soulful tracks of vinyl-pressed gold that I played on repeat, at best during times when I had the chance to listen to it from beginning to the end (I recommend jamming to it on the Sea to Sky Highway if you’re headed that way anytime soon). Pretty Lights has been making good music for a long time, but everything since A Color Map has just solidifed his synth-ridden style as unique and completely his own. I was lucky enough to catch him live at Squamish Valley last year on my birthday and he definitely did not disappoint!

Fans, the Odesza remix of this tune is definitely also worth listening to .

ODESZA – Sun Models (feat. Madelyn Grant)

sun-models-odesza

This brand new tune from Odesza is bomb and anyone who agrees ought to hit up Venue on April 10th for what’s bound to be a wicked show from the Seattle duo. 2013 brought us the sun-kissed EP My Friends Never Die which I’m dying to hear live in April – a month to save for with upcoming Season’s Fest bringing some pretty hot DJs to Vancouver.

If the song sparks your interest, Vice’s Thump sums up the EP better than I could: “Their new jam, ‘My Friends Never Die,’ feels like crashing down a waterfall on a bouquet of roses with Flying Lotus as your chauffeur. These are stoner jams to smack your bubblegum to — full of hip-hop grooves and sunshine.”
